Off on an adventure!!

Hello! My name is Wonderfish and I love adventure! I am exploring Brazil with my two friends Miss Bevan and Miss Goldsmith. I want to find out as much as I can! This is a great adventure and we are going to meet children that live in Brazil.

We have some questions to ask you:

- What is life like in Brazil?

- How do children live in Brazil? What do they like to do?

- Can we show them something about our lives in the UK?

- Does everyone live in the same way in the UK?

My First Day At Clarencio School

Well, my first day at Clarencio school was brilliant!!!! I was a bit nervous at first. It was strange meeting people who didn't speak any English at all. At first I didn't know what to do, so I just gave them a big smile. When I saw them smiling back at me I felt very happy!!! I wonder if they felt nervous meeting me too.

We played some games together and Miss Bevan and Miss Goldsmith gave some lessons in English. By the end of the day I had made so many new friends!

Children come to this school very early; school starts at 7 o'clock in the morning! Many children come to school by bus. I really enjoyed the bus! It was very noisy and crowded, but all the children were laughing and joking on the way to school .

How do you come to school?
What time do you start school?
What time do you get up ?

Clarencio School

Tomorrow I am going to visit children in a school! I am very excited! The school is in a town called Aquiraz which is near Fortaleza.

I will be going with Miss Bevan and Miss Goldsmith. I can't wait to make some new friends in the school. I wonder what it will be like?

Jericoacoara

I visited a beach that was far away in a place called Jericoacoara. You can only get there by buggy. I had a great time as the buggy bounced around on the sand! It was a very pretty journey too .

I had a go at playing capoeira on the beach. You have to be very fit and train for a long time. It is amazing to watch! To find out more about capoeira, click here

Ubajara National Park and The Sertao

After Fortaleza I caught a bus to an area in the mountains called The Sertao. The busses in Brazil are great! They are very comfortable and they travel all over the country.

The weather was much cooler in the mountains. I visited Ubajara National Park with more tall trees and some very lovely waterfalls. The people were so friendly! I had to work hard to practise my Portuguese!

The guide in the forest told me how native people live in the forest in Brazil and use its plants for so many different things. I was amazed! He showed us how a tree could be used like a drum to tell other people where you are in the forest!

Do you have a forest near you? How often do you visit? Can you name some of the trees there?

Do you know that 'oi' means 'hi' in Portuguese? What other words can you say in Portuguese?

Fortaleza

I got on another aeroplane and I flew to the North East of Brazil. I stayed in a big city called Fortaleza. The weather was very hot and I went for another swim in the sea. The water was warm and lovely! I had lunch by the beach, there were people selling icecreams from carts that they push along. It was cold and delicious!!

What do you like to do at the seaside?

What can you see in these pictures? Which features are human? Which features are physical?

Can you find Fortaleza on a map of Brazil?

Iguacu Falls

I have been having a very exciting few days! I got on a plane from Rio and I flew to a place called Foz do Igacu (or The Igassu Falls in English).

The weather is different here. It is not as hot and the air feels very thick because it holds alot of water. This type of climate is a humid climate.

Yesterday I visited a national park which had a big rainforest in it. I saw some big trees and some enormous spiders! I was a bit scared of them! Other animals live in this forest too, including monkeys, jaguars, hundreds of insects, and birds like toucans. There is alot of noise!!! You can hear the birds and insects calling noisily.

Do you know what plants in the forest need to grow?
The guide told us the plants all grow at different heights to catch the sunlight. Why do you think this is? On my trip I saw some plants with big holes in. Why do you think this is?

what instruments would you use to make sounds like the birds and insects in the forest?

Well I am at the airport. There are lots of planes here. The airport is very big and busy with lots of people going to different countries. There are people from all around the world here with big bags. The airport staff checked my passport and I went through a big scanner. I feel very excited and a bit nervous! In 11 hours I will be in Rio de Janeiro! I am ready for take off!!!
